Bike

I ride a Specialized Awol de Luxe gravel bike, which I bought second hand before my first bike trip on the Sultan’s trail from Vienna to Istanbul in fall 2018. Initially it was a classic touring setup with the standard Ortlieb panniers though over time this morphed into a bikepacking setup (I adore the frame bag, but packing is generally more cumbersome and there is less space). This way I cycled from Dresden to London, London to Basel and quite a few miles in Great Britain as well. I usually travel not only with the usual outdoor kit (tent, cooking stuff etc), but also have my mobile office with me.

Canoe

When I am paddling, you’ll find me usually in my folding Ally 15 DR canoe. It makes for easy transport (18kg) and can carry lots of stuff. So far, I have paddled the Elbe, the Yukon and the Thames. I guess the key downsides are speed and how much much wind can impact the maneuverability.

Tent

I used to travel with a NEMO Hornet 2P ultralight weight tent (1.1kg incl. footprint). However, I somehow managed to lose it on a trip on the Isle of Wight. Since then I use the Naturehike Mongar 2, which is basically a replica of the MSR Hubba Hubba. I don’t have much experience just yet especially in windy conditions. For now, the price convinced me even though at 2.3kg (incl. footprint) it is on the heavier side of the lightweight tent options.
